Russia is located on the Eurasian landmass. It is the largest country in the world, and its inhabitants account for about 2.86 percent of Eurasia's population. Russia's population density is about 21.8 persons per square mile. The Russian Federation, as it is officially known, was formed in 1991, after the collapse of the USSR.
