North America Information

North America is the third largest continent on planet Earth, and its inhabitants account for about eight percent of the world's population. Stretching between the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean, this northern hemisphere continent includes land forms and climates ranging from Alaskan glaciers to tropical Caribbean islands. Greenland and the Canadian Shield islands and hills are found in the northeast; the Appalachian mountain range runs down the eastern side of the continent, while the Cordillera ranges run down the western side. Between these ranges lie the vast Great Plains, which is often called the Bread Basket of America.
