Netherlands Information
Located in western Europe, Netherlands is the one hundred and thirty-fifth largest country in the world; its inhabitants account for about 2.28 percent of Europe's population. The Netherlands is densely populated, with about 1,052 persons per square mile. The country has a few hills, in the south and east, that level out to a flat coastal area bordered to the north and west by the North Sea. Much of this coastal area is below sea level and must be protected by dykes and dunes.
