The Old Testament consists of 39 books that were written by ancient Israelites before the birth of Jesus Christ. These books include the five books of Moses plus the books of Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1st and 2nd Samuel, 1st and 2nd Kings, 1st and 2nd Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, and Job, as well as the Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, and books written by seventeen different prophets.
