Virginia Information

The first English settlement in North America was at Jamestown, Virginia. This tobacco-producing colony played a major part in the fight for independence during the Revolutionary War. And numerous battles were fought in Virginia during the Civil War, which left the state financially ruined. Today, Virginia has a diversified ecomony with shipbuilding, major naval bases, government offices, and high-tech businesses. Tourists are attracted to historic sites and beautiful mountainous areas.
